BJP parliamentary party criticises Congress

New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS): The BJP parliamentary party on Tuesday criticised the Congress for disrupting proceedings in parliament and adopted a resolution against the main opposition's "politics of obstructionism and negativity".

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also reiterated that none of its leaders would resign as demanded by the main opposition party.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union ministers and BJP leaders attended the meeting.

The resolution was introduced by Communications and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and unanimously passed by the BJP parliamentarians, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi later told reporters.

"The Congress's disruptive attitude shows frustration, and the party is not able to digest Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity in the country. The government will continue to do its work without bothering about the negative politics by the opposition," Naqvi said.

He also ruled out resignations by the BJP leaders. "There will be no resignations. The Congress is trying to defame them among the public."

He said the allegations against External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje were baseless.

Naqvi also sought to justify the suspension of 25 Congress MPs by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

He said: "The speaker had warned the members against displaying placards in the house. The Congress's aim was to washout the session, which they (Congress) had clearly said on the very first day of session. We could not allow that."
