Provide safe transport to women staff of Lok Sabha TV: Speaker

New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS): Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has directed the Lok Sabha Secretariat to provide foolproof transport facility to women staff working in Lok Sabha television (LSTV) during late shifts.

An official release said on Tuesday that the speaker reviewed the existing system of transport facilities to women employees of LSTV during late shifts.

The women staff had met the speaker to convey their views concerning transport facilities.

The secretariat also held an interactive meeting with the women employees.

The release said the secretariat has initiated many new measures based on the responses towards enhancing safety of the women employees.

It said the speaker also gave directions for police verification of all drivers.

The women employees were requested to alert the transport desk and other offices concerned in case of any problem.

The release said the secretariat has a strong security system that includes a nodal officer who ensures that women working late hours reach home safely.

LSTV also tries to avoid late shift duties for women staffers as far as possible, it said.

"The transport contractor as well as drivers are also being sensitised about the security perception of the female staffers," it said.
