Mangaluru, Aug 4: Frank Fernandes, the alert and quick-thinking farmer who averted a train mishap after he noticed fragmentation on a railway track, was honoured for his heroic deed by MLA of Mangaluru North Mohiuddin Bava here on Tuesday August 4.

As reported earlier by daijiworld, which was the first to break the story, Frank had stopped the Mangaluru-Madgaon Intercity Express on Saturday August 1 after he noticed that the railway track at Bondel-Pachanady had been broken. Using great presence of mind, he collected a bunch of red Pagoda flowers at the spot and used them as a signal to stop the train, thus averting a train derailment and possibly saving lives.

To appreciate his brave effort and reward him, MLA Mohiuddin Bava along with his supporters visited Frank's residence and honoured him with a shawl, besides handing over a cheque of Rs 5,000.

Speaking to the media, Bava said, "Frank Fernandes, a farmer from a rural area has averted a possible tragedy by stopping a train carrying around 1,500 passengers. Frank's brave effort has brought honour to the entire district and made everyone proud. I read about this incident in daijiworld."

He also said that he has already recommended Frank's name for the Rajyotsava Award. "I have already shown media clippings of the incident to chief minister Siddaramaiah and urged him to select Frank Fernandes for the Rajyotsava Award," he said.

"I am happy that Frank Fernandes is from my constituency. We must salute his noble act," he added.

Corporator Kavitha Sanil was also present.

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 30: The road which connects Arkula with Baddoor Kana on Meramajalu Road is in such a bad state that it forces one to wonder whether it is a road or slushy field.

    While today Daiji reported :

Speaking to the media, Bava said, "Frank Fernandes, a farmer from a rural area has averted a possible tragedy by stopping a train carrying around 1,500 passengers. Frank's brave effort has brought honour to the entire district and made everyone proud. I read about this incident in daijiworld."

I am surprised how come this Bawa did not read the first report with photo evidence appearing in DW, that too a serious issue concerning his own constituency!!

Reward is fine for this real hero because se saved & avoided a big tragedy. Of course as he is rural farmer needed a big gift of money . Govt recognizes other heros achievement in like sport, film ,education, paying as reward may be in lakhs . but this is ....for the real hero ? It will be nice even railways will recognize him and also reward him with a job.

There are ppl who focus only problem and their purpose is only to find out mistake, for some ppl only mistake is appeared in front of their eyes were ever they go , because wht we focus it expand, Mr.Frandis have done very much Appreciable work due his noble work it helped to save many ppl and loss, ppl who ve good heart to support humanity ir-respective cast and religion they don't expect any praise or honor from ppl because they never do for that, their purpose is to help and to see ppls happy thts it , i consider Mr. Farnadis in that way.

Mr.Bava Honored him good work because of that it will inspire other ppl to do such kind of good work..but u know always we can see every were some crooked mind ppl try to find out only mistake, tht we can understand even in above comments by mentioning money given by Mr.Bava is not enough and it is to get publicity by telling all stuff and giving negative feedback , wht i want to say those ppl is honoring big shield or money is not important having good heart to honor is important .

So my word to those ppl who try to find out only mistake and problem is, help , praise, support, motivate, appreciate ppl without considering religious, cast ect only then there will be peace in society and in world further we will become good human being.... instead of only praising and thinking what we and our religious ppl does is correct and if some other religious ppl does is wrong....

Kudos to Mr. Bava for at least having the courtesy to acknowledge the act of bravery of this humble farmer. Meanwhile, the "Shameless Southern Railway" Palghat Division hasn't even had the basic courtesy to thank him and acknowledge him for his heroic act. Not that I expect anything better from a Railway division that knows only to slurp out the revenue from Mangaluru and nothing else!

    5K for saving 1500 people????
Is this fair Mr.Bawa?? Every one wants to be a hero in real life and some like Fernandes do as humanity and some for publicity.
Though people who recognize this should make reward some thing which is valuable and can be admired by many.

Great job, Frank Fernandes, you have saved almost 1500 lives. But look at our Politicians, what an insult by giving him a rs.5000/- cheque.

So is that what is value of almost 1500 people, or is that what you think is appropriate to honour a person who has saved such a huge disaster .!! How ever something is better than nothing.!

If it was significant presence of mind to save 1500 people from possible danger isnt Rs.5000 too small or negligible in todays time. Its like each person in the train giving him Rs.3 per head(Literally)

By paying Rs 5000 cheque, Bava has grabbed Rs 5 Lac publicity on Daijiworld !! When we honor a achiever for something great, iether we should pay atleast 25k or should not pay anything I feel, Mr Fernandes has been insulted with just 5000. It is more of publicity event. Any way thank you Bava

Mr. Frank Fernandes, You did a great job saving innocent lives from a possible train disastrous. While watching and seeing your pic at the spot where u were holding red flowers to stop the incoming train, noticed the concern in your face to save people. With all the turmoil in the world and existence of corrupt politicians and careless Authorities in the govt. department, you showed us that there are good people in this world who have concern for others. Because of people like you, humanity still exists. May you and your family be blessed at all times from the Almighty and that is the best reward you get.

An act of PRESENCE OF MIND and initiative by simple farmer deserves high praise.

It is very kind of MLA Bava to recognize the action taken by farmer Frank Fernandes. Frank richly deserves an even better reward than a gift of Rs.5,000/- and it is hoped that some other Government Authority will come forward to suitably recognize Frank's promptitude of action in an emergency.
