Kasargod, Aug 5: In an operation launched by a police team led by Ambapura deputy superintendent of police, Sukumaran, at Iritti Keelur road near Kannur on Tuesday August 4, three kilograms of gold and Rs 1.10 crore in cash were seized from a car. In connection with this operation, two persons from Maharasthra, identified as Kiran (34) and Mansoor (36), were arrested.

The police had collected intelligence information that gold and cash were being transported without authorization. In the early hours on Tuesday, the police team took up checking of vehicles at the above spot, and soon found cash and gold being taken in a Maruti Swift car. As the occupants of the car failed to produce documents in support of the items in their possession, they were arrested, and the car was also confiscated.

The police suspect this to be Hawala money. The police have taken up investigation about gold and cash being delivered to gold merchants from Kerala from other states.

Police circle inspector, V V Manoj, and flying squad police sub-inspector, Sudheesh, assisted the team in its operation.

These havala operators must be super dumb.. Rs 1.10 cr in 1000s denominator will only be 11 small bundles.. look at the loot in front of the police.. in smaller denominators.. and the havala operators normally uses trains, and have special vest to carry gold.. these are not havala operators, but some other illegal business..

After checking let police officials keep gold and money in safe custody.
