SC decision will strengthen fight against terrorism: Sharif

Islamabad, Aug 5 (IANS): Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said the Supreme Court's decision favouring establishment of military courts will strengthen the country's fight against terrorism.

The apex court on Wednesday rejected all applications challenging the 18th and 21st constitutional amendments, ruling in favour of the establishment of military courts in the country.

Sharif also said that August 5 is an important day for Pakistan’s politics, democracy and history, adding that the country’s war against terrorism will benefit from the apex court decision, Geo TV reported.

"Extraordinary circumstances require extraordinary decisions," Sharif said.

The Pakistan prime minister also said that the declaration of military courts as legal by the apex court would discourage terrorists.
