Japan offers assistance to India to tackle floods


New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS): Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and conveyed Japan's readiness to provide assistance to tackle the massive floods in many parts of India.

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida has also written to his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj on the same lines, according to a Japanese embassy statement on Wednesday.

Both Abe and Kishida wrote to "extend condolences to the affected people and wishes for rapid recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas and convey Japan's readiness to provide assistance upon a request from the government of India", the statement said.
