At last water arrives in city-situation to normalise on Thursday

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Aug 6: After five full days of waiting, the residents of city had something to cheer about on Wednesday evening. The pipes which did not carry water for all these five days managed to flow with water and that brought relief to the residents.

A survey by Daijiworld has revealed that most of the parts of the city have received water on Wednesday night.

Two pipelines each of 18 mgd capacity at Kannur on the way to city from Thumbay had burst on Saturday which stopped water supply to the city till Wednesday.

The city which is soon going to be a smart city with crores of rupees of investment has taken five days to repair two pipes which supplied water to the city. Residents depended on tanker water on all these days and some had even started going to relatives’ houses in villages.

Though the water has arrived, the flow was not good as usual. It is learnt that situation will come to normal from Thursday. Some complained about dirt in the water.

FIRST THANK THE RAIN GOD....I WAS BLESSED WITH WATER FOR FIVE DAYS...TO SUBSTITUTE MCC WATER....ALSO I THANK THE MCC FOR THE HARD WORK OF FIXING THE LEAK. IT WAS NOT EASY TO FIX WHEN THE PIPES WHERE NOT TRACED WHICH ARE HIDDEN IN THE SLUSH. I AM EYE WITNESS FOR THE STRESS OF THE WORKERS. THESE COMMENTS ARE FROM AIR CONDITIONED ROOMS / CABINS WHICH ARE VERY EASY.

No doubt those involved in the repair work had to toil a lot, but what about the water pipeline maintenance staff doing all the while when so much debris was getting dumped on the same, it is a joke to hear that they found it difficult to locate the pipes for long!! Imagine almost an entire city going off water for 5 straight days, where is the crisis management program!! And how come both pipes had to burst at the same time?

After all, the public is paying hefty water and other taxes for the smooth movement of this facility!!

Such type of essential commodity supply failure is not at all acceptable in a to become 'smart city'!!!

Many thanks to the plumbing crew, who done excellent work even in the pathetic condition at Kannuru. Really we proud of them for their patience in set right of problem. And, also mention "shame" to MCC officials who did not care for precautions in the past and also insist the officials to dedicate into their work as such incidents should not be repeated further. MCC should give concession in property tax for the last 4 days people suffered because of 'no water', what do you say dear readers?

While some of the areas in Baikampadi and Katipalla received water on Wednesday afternoon itself, in our Matadakani/Boloor area within Mangalore city itself we received water today (Thursday) morning after 8 am, that too with very low pressure and very muddy. Area-wise discrimination of water supply on Wednesday shows Vote Bank politics even in supply of water after Six days by MCC ?

Definitely tanker suppliers made a killing during these five days, having raked in the moolah in such a short period, they along with their cohorts might be the happiest group today!!

Water will become the biggest issue for Mangluru in the future considering the mushrooming of scores of multistorey buildings!!

Mangalore development is nothing but an eye wash by the the builders. Water and electricity menace will keep haunting. 5 days and no water is a big shame. One rascal wanted to divert water from mlore to blore to get votes. This pathetic fellow is from Karkala. Kalla from karkala.

Pathetic state of affairs for Mangluru, two pipes bursting at the same time is a rare coincidence???

Taking 5 days to set things right, and still complains of no water in many areas is really pathetic and sloppy work!!

This is just a trailer of the 'main film' of severe water shortage in Mangluru due to rampant development of concrete jungle without commensurate increase in basic amenities like water supply!! Borewells are not a solution as over a period of time, due to haphazard and uncontrolled drilling of bore wells, the ground water level will further go down and wells are bound to go dry!! Unlike cities like Mumbai which has a large storage capacity of 7 huge lakes to supply abundant water supply through the year, Mangluru does not have such a facilty!!

Nagesha, when I was about to conclude that your CAPSLOCK must've been out of order, saw the last line. Btw, It's NaMo who has earned reputation for blaming everything (including his failures) on 60 years rule and his master strategist needs another 23.5 years to set things right.

There should be good engineers and technicians to solve the issue. And the DC and Mayor of the city jointly issue orders with deadline.

But this wont happen, all are irresponsible.

I request all our Govt employees please work for minimum 5 hours with full dedication. The only you can make our city smart.

There are highly qualified officers but they dont want to take responsibilities.

Everybody wants to town / city. Builders are backfilling purchased fertile lands with sand/rock/cement and selling flats. At the end no proper infrastructure for water. If this will continue...one day there will be no water. As since many years there is prediction that India's ground water level is reducing every year due de-forestaization, green-gases, pollution, no agriculture. Its really warning-bell from nature to mankind.
