Udupi, Aug 6: A youth from Uttar Pradesh was found dead in lock-up at Manipal police station here on Thursday August 6.

Gayaprasad (20), who was arrested following his wife's death, was found hanging in the lock-up.

Gayaprasad's wife Roshni (18), also from Uttar Pradesh, had allegedly committed suicide on August 3 at the couple's house in Parkala here. On the basis of a complaint filed by Roshni's brother, the police arrested Gayaprasad on charges of harassment on the evening of Wednesday August 5.

It is learnt that on Wednesday night, Gayaprasad complained of shivering, after which the police gave him a blanket. Gayaprasad reportedly used this blanket to hang himself from the window grill in the lock-up.

Strangely, another accused in a different case was said to have been with Gayaprasad in the same cell. Sources said that he was released on Thursday morning after Gayaprasad's death came to light.

Gayaprasad was working in a scrap dealer shop.

IGP (western range) Amrit Paul visited the spot and took stock of the situation, and assured that a thorough enquiry would be conducted.

Speaking to reporters, owner of the scrap dealer shop where Gayaprasad used to work said, "Gayaprasad joined work just about 15 days ago, and had taken accomodation in Parkala. His wife was found hanging on August 3 and he was arrested on August 5. He may have committed suicide out of fear."

Manipal police have registered a case.

Police wants to divert the Lock-up death by beating to Lockup Suicide. Now a days Polices are inspired by movie stories to divert real life story like these incidents.Department will gve them money for their Jeep, still they are looking to our Wallets like beggars.
About fitness, i'm requesting to Government that please implement the Service duration age like in our Army. Just service for 10-15 year & get retied for giving chance to youngsters to became a Police than an future thieves or terrorists.

For sure this is not suicide but a murder by the police...after releasing the cell-mate they must have hanged the body in the cell. They may also know the reason for his wife's death.

'Tummy' is a sign of 'prosperity'..
Do you think at this age..they can run or work out in gym.
Better best alternative..do 'yoga'..to keep themselves 'fit'.

With all the money coming in why shouldn't they show-off that little sign of prosperity?

And after having paid a big fat sum to get into the police force, why shouldn't they?

By the way RIP to the youth, may he meet his young wife in heaven.
