Task force to stop open sale of acid, says DCW chief

New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS): A task force would be set up to stop the open sale of acid in the national capital, Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) Swati Maliwal said here on Thursday.

Despite being banned by the Supreme Court, acid sells openly in the city, leaving the chemical open to misuse, especially in crimes against women.

"A task force would be constituted to curb the open sale of acid in Delhi," Maliwal said after meeting Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Health Minister Satyendra Jain.

She was accompanied by five acid attack victims.

In separate meetings with Sisodia and Jain, Maliwal sought government help for acid attack victims.

Maliwal said Sisodia has ordered that data base of such victims be prepared so that they can be provided suitable jobs. While Jain, who is also the home minister, assured legal and medical help to such victims.

The AAP-led Delhi government had decided to provide jobs to acid attack survivors.
