Udupi, Aug 7: Members of Ashrayadata Auto Union voluntarily undertook the work of patching up the road from Karavali bypass to Malpe road on the morning of Thursday August 6.

On Wednesday July 22, a short term protest was held by the same group under the leadership of Ramesh Shetty and a memorandum was submitted to the deputy commissioner.

The auto union members had given the administration a deadline of 10 days to complete the work, but they were fed up with false promises from politicians. Hence, nearly 30 auto drivers got together to carry out the road work.

Ganesh Banger, an auto driver said, “We usually charge passengers Rs 30 for one kilometer. If we travel on such bad roads, the vehicle will suffer damages soon. Drivers have to pay dearly for items like bearing and wires since it shortens mileage. Auto drivers have to think twice before using the Malpe road.”

Ramesh Shetty said, “Promises by politicians are only restricted to newspaper statements and not implemented. The MP, MLA or minister has to take the responsibility. Unfortunately, they have little concern for public interest. All expenses are borne by the union and this has not yet been calculated.”

“Since they are public servants, let them give statements in newspapers that ‘they are incapable of carrying out repair work. We have failed to fulfill the interest of the public or common man’. Soon after the statement Ashrayadata Union members will complete the task within a month. But, they have to admit defeat first,” he added.

Malpe is a busy road just like Manipal and many tourists come to visit Malpe beach, St Mary’s Island, Malpe harbour, fish mill, and other places. So, there is no other alternative to Karavali bypass to Malpe road. There is a road, but it takes a much longer time.

Good job by Auto people. Public suffer because of poor quality road.Every year it is same story. Why can't they put hoardings on every 500 meters or 1 Km in city limit mentioning who is responsible for the road, quality control, last contractor, date of asp halting. Every year contractors do poor quality work and within 1 or 2 rains road becomes a battle field. Our MLAs go on foreign tours and drive rolls Roy's on tax payers money. We can catch hold of these people and thrash them & teach them a lesson for not doing their job.

The only way to get things done required with in that is area is to attach physically the persons responsible to carry out road maintenance or water supply, or electric supply. He may be Panchayath president, PWD Engineer or the Local MLA. Few stones on their face surely do the Job quickly.

Auto rickshaw union is really doing good work. This is the main junction to maple, udupi town kundapur , manglore. Every rainy season the same story of potholes and water slogging. The concerned govt, authority should construct this road in concrete cement, along with proper drainage both sides of the road. The main problem is due water logging the tar road spoils. Meanwhile it is surprise that unions and general public coming forward and doing this work instead of concerned govt, authorities. Day may come the people have to collect the taxes and do these type of work instead of leaving this job govt, because they only knows to collect the revenues/taxes and not bothered about work needed by the people.

We all appreciate Udupi Auto drivers labor work for road repair (as severe labor shortage or nobody wants to do labor job). At the same time we all request taxi and auto drivers spend at least 1-day in "ಕ೦ಡೊ೦ಡೊ೦ಜಿ ದಿನ" in all agriculture field for paddy cultivation, so that we don't have shortage of rice in our state, district in future... By doing this there will be enough rainfall every year...All the best keep it up guys..

Good, it is time for Auto, Taxi, KSRTC, Tourist, Passenger and Goods transport operators, who are affected most, should form unions and strongly protest where there is genuine negligency by Govt, M.P's, M.L.A's, and Corporators.
People should agitate and demand justice!
Nowadays nothing comes free including committed justice.
It is an era of false promises and irresponsibility.
People have to identify and fix it.
