Modi expresses grief over Myanmar floods

New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday conveyed his grief at the loss of lives in flood-ravaged Myanmar and expressed solidarity with the people of the neighbouring country.

"Sad to learn about devastating floods in Myanmar. India stands shoulder to shoulder with Myanmar in this hour of need," the prime minister said.

Modi shared a link to the statement, issued by the ministry of external affairs, giving details about the disaster relief support provided by India to Myanmar in response to the flood situation there.

Twelve regions and states of Myanmar have been severely affected by cyclone Komen, which has led to widespread floods and landslides in the country. Around 250,000 people have been affected and over 500,000 acres of farmland destroyed.

"The operation will be completed in the next 2-3 days," the statement said.
