40 corrupt Pakistani officials sacked

Islamabad, Aug 8 (IANS): At least 40 officers of a government body which denied that a terrorist caught in India was a Pakistani have been sacked for issuing fake identity cards.

All those dismissed are from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

They included a director general, a general manager, a deputy general manager, an intelligence officer and managers, Geo TV reported.

All of them operated out of NADRA offices in Karachi and were allegedly involved in issuing fake computerized national identity cards.

Four director generals were also demoted for misusing their authority, the report said.

NADRA denied that the terrorist caught in Udhampur in India on August 5 was a Pakistani, saying he did not exist in their data base.
