Kundapur: Fishing boat sinks - owner suffers heavy losses

Kundapur, Aug 10: The owner of a fishing boat from Gangolli suffered heavy losses after his boat sank off Gangolli coast in the taluk on Sunday August 9.




The boat bearing the name, 'Sri Manjunatheshwara' was owned by Raghavendra Kharvi from Gangolli. On Sunday morning, it had left Gangolli shore for undertaking fishing activity. However, after covering a short distance, it was hit by a huge wave, as a result the boat was capsized. Personnel of a fishing boat that was passing nearby at the time rescued fishermen, Pandu Gangolli, Prabhakar Gangolli, Ishwar Uppunda, and Manjunath Korawadi, who worked for the ill-fated boat.

The injured fishermen were admitted into a private hospital in the town. Luckily, all of them are out of danger, and showing signs of recovery.

The boat, which drowned in the sea, was badly damaged. Net and other equipment on board the boat have drowned. Due to this accident, the owner has suffered huge losses, which are yet to be assessed.

As soon as he came to know about the accident, Byndoor MLA, K Gopal Poojary, visited Gangolli and instilled confidence among the fishermen who have become jittery. He also met the owner of the drowned boat and sympathized with him, besides assuring him of doing his best to provide maximum possible compensation from the government.
