New Delhi, Jun 8: A 53-year-old man set his wife on fire, injuring her seriously, before taking his life by burning himself in a northwest locality here, police said on Friday June 8.
Lokpal (53) died at the Ambedkar hospital after the Thursday night incident at his house in Rohini while his wife Krishna (50) is battling for her life at another hospital in the locality.
Their daughters Vibha (24) and Richa (21) also sustained minor burns when they tried to save them.
Both of them have been admitted to the same hospital. Police said it was not immediately clear what prompted Lokpal to take such a step, but said it could be because of financial distress.
"A case of attempt to murder has been registered at Rohini police station and an investigation is on," a senior police official said.
Lokpal, who works in a private firm, had lost his youngest son two years ago in a mishap.
