NGO launches tip-line to report Himachal bull fights

Shimla, Aug 11 (IANS): To check incidents of bull fights in Himachal Pradesh, NGO Humane Society International (India) on Tuesday announced the launch of a tip-line that will enable people to report about animal fight events being organised.

The launch comes after an order passed by the Himachal Pradesh High Court on July 21, banning the practice of bull and animal fights. It reiterated the Supreme Court's ban on animal fighting.

"Animal fighting is a cruel, criminal activity and animals undergo immense physical pain and psychological stress during these bloody events. Through this tip-line, we can plan to root out animal fighting," the NGO's managing director N.G. Jayasimha said in a statement.

Complaints can be lodged at the number 7674-922044.

"In view of the law laid down by the apex court, no other and further order except for a direction to the respondents to ensure the implementation of the judgment ordered accordingly," a high court division bench of Justice D.C. Chaudhary and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan observed while disposing of a petition by animal rights activist Sonali Purewal.
