NCC cadet killed in accidental gunfire

Kozhikode (Kerala), Aug 11 (IANS): A 19-year-old NCC cadet was killed in Kerala on Tuesday when his weapon went off when he was cleaning it, police said.

The incident occurred after a firing session had got over, and Dhanush Krishna, from the St Stephen's College at Pathanapuram in Kollam district, was cleaning his gun.

"He had been given five rounds of ammunition and he had fired four rounds at the firing range. The fifth round was recovered from his body," a police official said.

Hearing the sound of gunfire and seeing a wounded Krishna, NCC officials and fellow cadets rushed him to a hospital near here but he passed away.

The NCC cadets were preparing for a competition to be held later this month in Delhi.
