Iranian foreign minister arrives in Pakistan

Islamabad, Aug 13 (IANS): Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif arrived in Pakistan on Thursday for a day-long visit, officials said.

Upon arriving, Zarif met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in different fields, Geo News reported.

Zarif had last visited Pakistan in April this year, and discussed matters related to the Yemen crisis during his visit. Sources said the two sides also discussed matters relating to the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

The completion of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project will help Pakistan overcome its energy shortage, Sharif said.

A high-level delegation led by the Afghan foreign minister is also scheduled to arrive later in the day in Islamabad.

Zarif is also scheduled to meet his Pakistani counterpart, Advisor to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz.

According to the foreign office, Zarif will brief the Pakistani side on the Joint Comprehensive Programme of Action, the nuclear agreement signed by Iran and world powers in Vienna on July 14.
