Two NSCN-K rebels killed in Nagaland

Dimapur, Aug 13 (IANS): Security forces on Thursday killed two members of the NSCN-K after a brief gun-battle in Nagaland's Mokokchung district, bordering Assam, an official said.

A defence ministry spokesman said one AK 56 rifle, one HK rifle and some rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

The security forces launched an operation at Longsa village based on information that a group of militants was taking shelter in the area, he said.

The security forces asked the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang militants to surrender, the spokesman said. But they opened fire prompting the security forces to retaliate.

The two militants were killed in the ensuing gun-battle, he added.
