Karkala: Mahalakshmi Shenoy Bags Coveted Surmani Award

Karkala, Jun 12: Mahalakshmi Shenoy, a budding Hindustani classical vocalist of Karkala and a disciple of Grammy Award-winner Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt of Jaipur and Pandit Ramarao Nayak of Goa, peformed with great success at 'Kal Ke Kalakar' musical concert at end-May 2007.

The concert had been organized by Sur Singer Samsad of Mumbai. In recognition of her dedication and performance, she was presented the prestigious Surmani national award.

She is the first artiste from Udupi district to bag the coveted award.  Earlier she has won a national award in classical music, in the inter-university national festival held in Chennai in January 2007.
