Determined to end termite of corruption: Modi

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday pledged to end the "termite of corruption" and tackle black money issue, and said "Team India" -- a team of 125 crore Indians -- will take the nation to new heights.

Addressing the nation from the 17th century Red Fort, Modi also said in his second Independence Day address that his government was determined to build a new India in which 18,500 villages would get power within 1,000 days.

Dressed in a cream kurta pyjama, beige waist coast and mustard headgear, Modi said his "Swachh Bharat" campaign was the biggest succees of his BJP-led government which took office in May last year.

He, however, disappointed lakhs of ex-service personnel who were awaiting for a concrete announcment on the One-Rank-One-Pension scheme. Apart from saying that the government had accepted in principle the scheme, he did not give any clear roadmap for its adoption.

In a first for August 15, the prime minister did not touch upon foreign policy - despite his numerous trips - and focussed wholly on domestic issues.

Making it clear that there was no place for casteism and communalism in India, he said the country can be free of corruption but we "have to start from the top".

"It can be done... Corruption is eating up our country like termites. If you want to get rid of termites, you have to inject medicine everywhere."

He pointed out that there was no allegation of corruption against his government.

"Corruption had become part of the system. Contractors were running the nation. We have taken steps to correct the system."

As an example of anti-corruption measure, he said coal block auction had been undertaken to earn Rs.3 lakh crore for the government.

Other steps had been taken to tackle black money -- from the appointment of a special probe team to enacting stringent law.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), he said, was probing some 800 cases of black money until he took power. Now the CBI was examining 1,800 cases.

Already several thousand crores of rupees had been collected from people who have begun to declare their ill-gotten assets, he said.

In his speech, Modi repeatedly used the word "Team India" - to denote a united nation.

"This is Team India, a team of 125 crore Indians. This is the team that makes the nation and takes our nation to new heights," he said to applause from the thousands who had gathered to hear him on a warm day.

He said the participation of people in governance had been possible via electronic platform or letters from citizens or through his radio address Mann Ki Baat.

Modi described the Swachh Bharat campaign as his government's "biggest achievement", and praised children and the young for being the campaign's "biggest brand ambassador".

Citing another success of his government, Modi said some 17 crore people untouched by any form of financial inclusion now had bank accounts, with deposits of Rs.20,000 crore, thanks to the scheme he announced exactly a year ago called the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.

"For the poor, the doors of banks were closed. I said this has to change... Bank accounts are essential for integrating the poor into the financial system. That's what we have done."

He promised to provide electricity to 18,500 power-less villages in the next 1,000 days.

He said when he was told by officials that this could be done only by 2019, he decided such a long wait was not possible. "So Team India pledges today that power will reach these villages within 1,000 days."

Modi announced the agriculture ministry would now be known as the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare -- to better take care of farmers' needs.

The government, he said, had brought down inflation despite poor rainfall, and called for a restructuring of agricultural practices.

But he emphasized the need for reforms in agriculture. "Agricultural land is shrinking, farmers need electricity, water," he said, adding the new motto should be "Save Water, Save Fertilizer" and "Per Drop More Crop".

Modi said he was expecting a "positive outcome" on the talks One-Rank-One-Pension scheme. He said every government promised to implement OROP but nothing was done.

"The trust with which talks are on, we are expecting a positive outcome."

The prime minister paid tributes to "all those great people who laid down their lives during India's freedom struggle".

Our Bhaashankaar PM doesn't know to speak in assembly but knows how to fool bhakths and cheddis using Twitter and social media. this is the old tactic followed in new technology. earlier people used to have debates in open forum and get it video taped. later the loser of debate watches and says to his fans and followers that the points which he posed or asked are not there and his fans follow his words but the people who attended the gathering are the witness to that facts.

Modi is good in fekugi, that is why he is called FEKU. Only in speech and no action. According to him if there is no place for people spread communal hate, then 50 percent of his MPs should be dismissed. Many MPs are openly doing hate speech and this feku has closed his eyes and telling nothing as if he dumb and deaf. He is definitely acting on sangh parivar agenda and whatever he says is zero. He is expert in fooling people. Most of his MPs are looters and decoits. However, no acting is being taken. Feku had promised to bring back black money in 100 days, but I don't it will be possible even if he remains in power for 100 years coz most of the decoits and looters are his friends and sympathisers. He had promised to deport 15 lakh rupees in the account of every Indians but even 15 paise is not deposited. All the money was shared by Adanis / Tatas / Birlas / Sangh parivars.

"People who abused Modi & preferred a dumb prince instead are today desperate & want overnight magical transformation. They aren't ready to make any contributions & worst will block & abuse all initiatives.

Our country needs big investments in our infrastructure which has is rotting since 60 years........

We have 2 options......just run day to day business by subsidizing everything & slowly let the economy drain out or make heavy investments to revive the growth story.....

But shamefully we find in our country few people waking up every morning & looking for what they can suck from the nation rather than providing something back to the nation....

Here we have a PM who hasn't taken a break in 15 years....just imagine his dedication & determination..... This morning he passionately spoke extempore for 90 minutes when many people we seen sweating in humidity........

& your prince did not even feel it necessary to come to red fort.....

Be objective in your evaluation & judge a man by his action & intents, not by self driven motives which are harmful to the nation.....

Independence or no independence it doesn't make any difference. Earlier the outsider used to loot India and now insiders are looting India. All this show of patriotism and nationalism is just a hog wash. Corruption is not a termite but a cancer which has crept deep into all political parties and from a chaprasi to the officer at the top who are working in Corporation, Taluk Office, Policemen, politicians, RTO, Insurance Companies, etc. This is all dramebaz by modi just like sushma. How can he say there is no corruption in his government when sushma, vasundara, shivraj singh chauhan, etc. have made money through corruption. Why is Modi not removing them from their positions if he is a clean man. He needs to stop being hypocrite and stop all his ostentatious and bombastic speeches which are just rhetorics without any substance in it.

If Modi was really against corruption he would have immediately handed over the Charge of Delhi police to delhi Government. Which is doing much better job than others. But this Modi and Shah want Delhi to worst than bfore. If he had little sincerity towards that flag he hoisted he would have allowed Delhi to function independently.

And we have seen your action for the last one year or so. Other than foreign trips, you have not done anything. BJP and Congress are cancer to India. Need to wipe out both these political parties. They are black mole on democracy. Parliament logjam, corruption and criminal activities prove this. And our idiot Congress and BJP Bhakths don't understand. Indian rupee is going down. The congress led government at the centre ruled India for about 58/years. The BJP led government has ruled for about 6/7 years.Let Modi get the current term completed and be judged after the completion of the term. India is a problematic nation. I do not know how much Modi will succeed , but, even an honest and efficient P.M will take a number of years to correct the loopholes India is having over the years. The way the Congress - the main opposition party has behaved, government can hardly hope to get co operation to run the country. In a parliamentary system of government, the role of opposition is countable.Overall, India' progress will dependable on many factors- on the government correct plans and their implementation and co operation of both the opposition parties and the general public.

Guru..that is not the excuse. Why Indian government fails to take remedial steps for stronger rupee? India needs strong finance minister who can take bold steps. India wants stronger government to handle corruption. Corruption cannot be wiped out by giving speeches. It should start from home. If corruption is curtailed, black money is brought back to India and if there is action on corporate rogues like Adani, Ambani and many more, then India will be a best place in the world to live in. But we are busy in amassing wealth, spread communalism and fake nationalism. There should be action against all corrupt irrespective of political affiliations. BJP and Congress both go hand in hand when it comes to corruption.

Secondly, open your eyes to the news of China.

    CHINA D E C L A R E D PUBLICLY, IT HAS ALLOWED TO DEVALUE ITS CURRENCY AT 2%/PER CENT.

And the chaaiwaala Chief Minister during the general election campaigns said the UPA's inaction of deterioration of currency value was in big mouths bhaashans.

YOU ARE CONTRADICTING YOUR OWN STATEMENT.

SECONDLY, CHIDU HAS NOT DONE AS YOU SAID TO THE DETERIORATING VALUE OF RUPEE.

WAS NOT THERE STAGNANT AND VIBRANT RUPEE VALUE PRIOR TO 2010.

OPEN YOUR EYES. THAT WAS CONGRESS RULE.

NOW WHY CAN'T CHAAIWAALA CONTROL RUPEE VALUE AND ONLY BLAH, BLAH., BLAH.... DURING ELECTION PERIOD.

Ok, if u guys r so much jnterested to now here's the reality. Ondia cannot afford to keep rupee strong in comparison to other currencies in the world. If that happens exports will be hit badly because other countries will gladly lower their currencies and push for jobs and exports. China did it to counter their free falling markets and to counter upcoming manufacturing hubs like india and Taiwan. There's no pride in keeping currency higher. And someone said other currencies have not fell, check out other currencies. Don't complain for the heck of it. Doesn't look good. You can differ in 1000 ways but I'm proud that I have a pm who can say it out loud in a I day speech that he will fight corruption and he has the will power.

Can this man be taken seriously any more? It is not enough to continue giving speeches. You have to prove that you are a man of your word. It is high time you showed you can act, not only talk. For once, take some action against the corrupt and earn the gratitude of your countrymen. We want you to be remembered as the person who fought corruption and not as the person who abetted it. Give us the independence from corruption. And please do not lose sight of the fact that it is confined to the Congress. Be candid enough to admit that the BJP is also equally corrupt.
