Sonia Gandhi, Amit Shah unfurl tricolour on I-Day


New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS): Congress president Sonia Gandhi and BJP chief Amit Shah marked Independence Day on Saturday by hoisting the tricolour at their party offices.

Gandhi hoisted the tricolour at the party office on Akbar Road here. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh were among those present.

Rahul Gandhi said: "It is day to reflect on what freedom means to each one of us - from the farmer toiling in our fields to the young person dreaming of a better future."

"Let us strive to build an India where all our people have the opportunity to make their dreams come true. Jai Hind," he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah hoisted the tricolour at the party's office on Ashoka Road here.

Several union ministers including Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and Prakash Javadekar extended their wishes on Independence Day through tweets.
