Brussels, Aug 17 (IANS): The European Union (EU) late Sunday expressed condolences over a deadly suicide attack that killed at least 15 people, including a minister, in Pakistan's Attock city, officials said.

At least 15 people, including Punjab province Home Minister Shuja Khanzada, were killed and 23 injured in the attack, Xinhua news agency reported.

"We express our condolences to the family and friends of Khanzada and others who lost their lives in the attack as well as to the Provincial and Federal Government. We also wish a fast recovery to all those injured," said a statement by the EEAS spokesperson.

The statement also noted that the EU will continue support Pakistan's efforts to fight terrorism, including by effective enforcement of its ban on terrorist organisations and hatred speech.

The banned group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack as revenge, according to media reports. The group said the attack was in revenge for the killing of their chief Malik Ishaq in a police encounter on July 29, 2015.
