Sri Lanka's ruling UNP 'would form new government'


Colombo, Aug 18 (IANS): Sri Lanka's ruling United National Party (UNP) has wrested the Gampaha parliamentary seat for the first time in 14 years, prompting the winning candidate to predict that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe would be able to form a strong and stable government

"We intend to keep our promises and develop the country as well as the district," the Daily Mirror quoted John Amaratunga as saying.
