Stunt selfie lands man in jail

New York, Aug 18 (IANS): A tourist who took a selfie of himself on a beam of the Brooklyn bridge was arrested on Monday in his home state of Tennessee, the New York Post reported.

David Karnauch, a 21-year-old engineering student at the University of Tennessee is being held as a fugitive from New York, according to police officials.

Karnauch had climbed onto a beam of the Brooklyn bridge and clicked a selfie before the July 4th weekend. He posted the image to his Instagram.

However, the authorities were not amused with the stunt as it raised security fears on the eve of American Independence celebrations.

"You could just get on a beam and it actually had handrails on the left and right side, and I just walked across the bridge and turned around to take a picture," Karnauch was reported as saying by WNBC-TV, after the image went viral.

Karnauch, currently in Chattanooga jail in Tennessee, will appear in court on August 31.
