New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS): Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Tuesday condoled the death of President Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra Mukherjee, saying her life symbolised simplicity and affability.

In her message, Mahajan said Suvra Mukherjee was a creative person, "who remained immersed in refined aspects of our cultural and social life, very notably in Rabindra Sangeet".

"Her life symbolised simplicity, affability and inspiring commitment to family and social obligations," she said.

Mahajan said Suvra Mukherjee was a constant source of strength and a true companion of the president in his long and eventful journey in public life.

"Though she was an active social worker with deep interest in music, her humble demeanour was such that even during the peak of her husband's political career, she preferred to confine herself to home as people celebrated his election to the highest office of the President of India," the speaker said.

Suvra Mukherjee died on Tuesday at the Army's Research and Referral Hospital here.
