Maharashtra condoles Suvra Mukherjee's death

Mumbai, Aug 18 (IANS): Maharashtra Governor C.V. Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday condoled the death of Suvra Mukherjee, wife of President Pranab Mukherjee.

"Suvra Mukherjee was a loving person of higher tastes, having been a vocalist of Rabindra Sangeet, a writer and a highly talented painter. She had performed Rabindranath Tagore's dance drama for many years in different parts of the world. Henceforth, she will have the opportunity for further progress and splendour on the higher plane of the invisible world," Rao and his wife Vinodha said in a condolence message.

Fadnavis also expressed grief over the death.

"Saddened to know about the demise of Suvra Mukherjee. My deepest condolences to President Mukherjee and his family," Fadnavis said in a message.

Describing her as low-profile and a caring housewife, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar said she supported President Mukherjee and his family throughout her life.

"She will be remembered as an ardent follower of Guru Rabindranath Tagore and a true connoisseur of music, dance and literature," Pawar said.
