New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday conveyed condolences to her Thai counterpart on the loss of lives in the Bangkok blasts.

"EAM @SushmaSwaraj conveys condolences to Thai FM on tragic loss of life in Bangkok blasts," tweeted external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup.

In a letter to General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Sushma Swaraj said she was shocked to learn of the blasts that killed 27 people and injured over 80 at the Erawan Hindu shrine on Monday.

She said she wished to convey, on behalf of the government of India and the people, sincere and heartfelt condolences at the tragic loss of innocent lives.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Thailand, in particular with those affected by this inhuman act.

"India has consistently condemned terrorism in the strongest terms and we express our solidarity with the government and people of Thailand in their fight against terrorism. We are ready to assist the authorities in any way possible in dealing with this unfortunate situation," she said.

In another attack on Tuesday, an explosive device was thrown at a pier in Bangkok, but no one was injured, media reports said.

People from China, Hong Kong, Britain, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore were among the foreigners killed in Monday's attack.
