Mangaluru, Aug 19: A consumer in the city has found a piece of broken glass in a jar of Kissan jam.

Vinaya, a resident of Nagori, had bought a jar of Kissan jam mixed fruit (700 gm) flavour from Spar hypermarket in the first week of July.

After more than a month of consumption, when the jar was nearly empty, Vinaya found to her utter shock that a piece of glass almost the size of a matchbox was lodged in the jam at the bottom of the jar.

Vinaya then informed about the matter to Hindustan Unilever, the manufacturer, by calling on the toll-free number given on jar. A company representative advised her to preserve the jar and the glass piece, and assured that the company would approach her soon.

Speaking to daijiworld, Vinaya said, "I am worried because my family members and I have almost finished the entire content in the jar. I have been consuming Kissan jams from childhood, but now I have lost faith in it and I do not want to buy it anymore."

The manufacturing date given on the jar is May 3, 2015.
