Russian president condoles Suvra Mukherjee's death

Moscow, Aug 19 (IANS): Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday condoled the demise of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra Mukherjee.

"Suvra Mukherjee was a truly outstanding personality. In India and abroad she enjoyed well-deserved respect as a talented artist, writer, actress and singer," Putin said in an official statement.

While praising the contributions of India's First Lady, who was cremated on Wednesday, Putin said: "she made a great contribution to preserve India's cultural and spiritual heritage."

Suvra Mukherjee died in Delhi on Tuesday at the Army's Research and Referral Hospital here after prolonged illness.
