Delhi government compensation for family of girl knifed to death


New Delhi, Aug 20 (IANS): The Delhi government on Thursday handed over a cheque of Rs.5 lakh to the family of a 19-year-old girl who was stabbed to death by her alleged stalkers in the city.

Besides, the government announced an additional compensation of Rs.5.25 lakh for the family, covering the treatment of her mother.

"The Delhi government on Thursday handed over Rs.5 lakh cheque to the parents of Meenakshi, who was brutally murdered at Anand Parbat area last month," a statement said.

Women and Child Development Minister Sandeep Kumar handed over the the cheque to Meenakshi's parents, the Delhi government statement said.

Meenakshi's murder in a broad day light had brought the AAP government and Delhi Police at loggerheads, with the city government accusing police of not acting on her repeated complaints.
