Karnataka Cabinet Approves 4,500-acre Land for Mangalore SEZ Evacuees

Bangalore, June 16: The Karnataka Cabinet has approved the setting up of a Special Economic (SEZ) Zone at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore in Nandigudi village in Hoskotte taluk, about 30 km from here, minister for primary and secondary education Basvaraj Horatti said on Friday.
Briefing newspersons here after the cabinet meeting, he said Mumbai-based SKIL has come forward to invest and there was no commitment on the part of the state government for the project. The project which needs 1500 hectare of land, would be set up according to the SEZ rules.
Horatti said a 25-day Karnataka legislative session would be held from July 2 to 26.

He said the Cabinet approved the setting up of a sub-committee to work on providing internal reservation to Backward communities.
He said the Cabinet also approved the taking up of the third stage of work on the Biotech Park on Hosur road at a cost of Rs 103 crore.
Setting up of a new Sugar factory by Shivshakti Ltd at Saudatti in Raibag taluk of Belgaum district was also approved by the Cabinet, he added.
The Cabinet approved a rehabilitation package for people affected by the SEZ project at Mangalore to provide 4500 acre of land in Dakshina Kannada district.
Horatti said the Deputy Commissioners have been given full power to withdraw illegal ration cards issued to Below Poverty Line (BPL) people and to issue them to genuine beneficiaries.
He said the government has planned a Housing project to provide 3900 units in 19 places across the state at a cost of Rs 1400 crore.
The cabinet approved the construction of an annexure at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi at a cost of Rs 15 crore, he added.
Horatti said the Cabinet approved-the setting up of a Madrasa Board for administration of 323 Madrasas functioning in the state.
