Woman shot at in Gurgaon, soldier held


Gurgaon, Aug 21 (IANS): A 26-year-old soldier was on Friday arrested for shooting thrice at a woman teacher here after their break-up, police said.

Manjeet Singh, a resident of Mirzapur village near Pataudi, was arrested from Rewari by the Crime Branch.

A private school teacher Deepika, 24, was shot at by Manjeet Singh on Thursday morning while she was waiting for a school bus at Bilaspur chowk on Delhi-Jaipur-Mumbai National Highway-8, a police officer said.

Police said Manjeet Singh, a sepoy posted at Hisar, had relations with the victim but they broke up two years ago.

Manjeet Singh came riding a bike, with his face covered, and shot thrice at the victim, the officer said, adding that the accused was being questioned.

The victim's condition in hospital was stated to be critical.
