Mangaluru, Aug 23: In a commendable gesture, UAE-based Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) on Sunday August 23 distributed free wheelchairs to 60 needy persons and awarded scholarships to 600 deserving students in a befitting ceremony held at Loyola Hall, St Aloysius College here.

The programme began with a prayer after which BCF patron B M Mumtaz Ali welcomed the gathering.

Addressing the gathering, minister for health U T Khader said, "I am very happy to be here and be part of a good cause to help needy students and the differently-abled of the district. Students should study hard, build good careers and support their parents. Along with intelligence quotient (IQ) students should also cultivate emotional quotient (EQ), and spiritual quotient (SQ) which will help them walk in the right direction.

"Bearys Cultural Forum's efforts in giving away free wheelchairs to the differently-abled people of the society will enable them to lead a respectable life. I wish all success to BCF in its future endeavours in organizing similar events and helping the needy," he added.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "Members of Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) working abroad are contributing their hard-earned savings to help needy children. I really thank them for this great gesture. The effort put in by BCF to help the needy children of the society is turning the dream of former President the late Dr A P J Abdul Kalam into a reality, as he considered students the future of society. I wish BCF all success in the coming years."

Commendable ! Excellent decision by the leaders of BCF, than handing over entire funds to institutions to decide how best they can use it. Here, BCF has total autonomy in deciding who should benefit from their contribution than leaving it in the hands of management who use it for raising building after building to earn more wealth. Thus, charity becomes just an eye wash with deserving students get deprived of any help.

Keep up the good work you gentlemen, please continue to uplift the needy !
