Jharkhand assembly disrupted over minister removal demand

Ranchi, Aug 24 (IANS): The Jharkhand assembly witnessed uproarious scenes on Monday over the opposition demand to remove Urban Development Minister C.P. Singh for getting a plot from the housing board.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha legislator Kunal Sarangi moved an adjournment motion seeking a special debate on removal of the minister. The demand was, however, not accepted by Speaker Dinesh Oraon.

Demanding the minister's resignation, members of the opposition parties gathered near the speaker's podium and shouted slogans, following which the speaker adjourned the house till 12.30 p.m.

When the house reassembled, opposition members again demanded the minister's resignation.

Replying to the opposition's demand, C.P. Singh said: "I have given a declaration of my plot during the (assembly) election. Leader of Opposition Hemant Soren will go to jail as he has purchased land illegally at many places."

The minister said he would bring a white paper on the land purchased by Soren.

The house was again adjourned till Tuesday.

In between the pandemonium, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Saryu Rai tabled the first supplementary budget for the year 2015-16 worth Rs.5,452 crore.
