Mangaluru, Aug 25: Nissar (21) from Uppala in Kasargod district, who was charged with peeping through the ventilator of a bathroom when a lady was taking bath inside, was sentenced to a year's simple imprisonment by the third JMFC court here.

Nissar was accused of venturing near a home at Thokkottu on February 14, 2013, and peeing through a ventilator at a woman who was taking bath at the time. As the cellphone of the accused started ringing at the time, the woman got to know that she was being clandestinely watched. The youth was also accused of video taping the scene.

Ullal police, who had registered the case, had undertaken investigation and filed charge sheet against the youth. The case came up for the first time for hearing on January 24 this year. Judge of the court, Undi Manjuula Shivappa, through a judgment delivered on August 22, sentenced Nissar to a year's imprisonment, besides levying a fine of Rs 10,000. In case of failure to pay fine, the guilty will have to undergo additional six months of imprisonment.

Nine witnesses including parents-in-law of the harassed woman were examined during the hearing. Assistant public prosecutor, Mohan Kumar, represented the prosecution. The accused, who was on anticipatory bail till now, will have now to go to jail.
