Cumberbatch's mother 'extraordinarily proud' of son

London, Aug 26 (IANS): Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has wooed audiences the world over with his prowess on screen, but one of his biggest fans is his mother.

Cumberbatch, who essayed the role of Hamlet on stage at the Barbican theatre here, made his mother, actress Wanda Ventham "extraordinarily proud", reports mirror.co.uk.

Speaking after his performance, Ventham said: He was quite lively growing up, but I thought that was phenomenal," she added.

The "Sherlock" star will be playing the lead role in the Shakespeare drama until the end of October.

“The Imitation Game” star's parents joined a host of celebrities, including his wife Sophie Hunter, in the audience.

"Downton Abbey" stars Dan Stevens and Allen Leech were also among the celebrity guests.

"Sherlock" writer Mark Gatiss, a close friend of Cumberbatch, said he was also "very proud".
