Mangalore, Jun 20: While it is raining cats and dogs in the district, the mighty waves have continued causing havoc along the coastal belt. More houses have been washed away by raging waves in and around Ullal.
Several houses are being collapsed while few more are on the verge of collapse, at Ullal. The hungry waves have uprooted many palm trees along the shores.
The dwelling of Shashidar at Mogaveerapatna has been totally damaged while a few more houses lie precariously exposed to danger of being washed away.
The houses of Ahmed Bava, Abdul Razaq and Hasina Ummer, have been devoured by mighty waves at Kotepura. A lone house of Iddinabba too has been washed away by the waves at Hidayat Nagar.
At Mukkachery a mosque has partially been damaged owing to sea erosion. Kotepur road that runs along the shores has extensively been damaged.
Though the work of laying stones along the shores has commenced from Wednesday June 20, nothing more can be expected. This has been the routine during every monsoon season. Government which has enough funds for everything else has no money to find some permanent solution for sea erosion, said one of the locals whose house has been devoured by raging waves.
