Bantwal: Man chases lady, attempts rape, gets arrested

Bantwal, Aug 27: In an incident which occurred at Badagabellur within the limits of the rural police station limits here on Wednesday August 26, a married man closely followed a lady and tried to rape her, reports said. In connection with this incident, the accused, Santosh Louis (38), resident of Varakkody in Badagabellur, stands arrested.

The lady, who works at Kaikamba, needs to walk about one and half km to reach her home after alighting from the bus. Santosh Louis reportedly knew it, and began to follow her since the moment she got down from a bus. Even after the girl hastened her steps, Santosh followed her and began to behave with her indecently, it is said.

The lady, who became jittery, entered a nearby house to take shelter. After Santosh moved ahead for some distance, she came out of this house and started walking towards her home again. But the accused, who had hidden somewhere, began to hit her trail once more. When he laid his hands on her and tried to rape, she escaped and started running. As soon as she reached her home, she narrated this horrific tale, after which people of the village got together and rushed towards the house of the accused.

After coming to know about this incident, rural police sub-inspector, Rakshit, accompanied by a team of policemen, went to the spot and searched for the accused. The policemen also warned the crowd not to indulge in anti social activities.

The policemen obtained a written complaint from the woman. Later, they succeeded in arresting Santosh Louis from the house of a woman near Badagabellur. The locals said that Santosh, father of two children, had also behaved indecently with several girls in the past.
