Udupi, Aug 27: Fifteen days ago, this young couple hailing from Gadag wanted to commit suicide, as their families would not let them get married. But things took a happy turn, and instead of dying, they entered into a new life of togetherness on Thursday August 27, thanks to the timely intervention of a social worker.

Basava (25) and Lalitha (20) hailing from Gadag had been in love for the past one year. Basava had settled in Udupi some years ago and was working here, while Lalitha stayed in Gadag.

It is learnt that though belong to the same caste, their families opposed their union, and girl's family fixed her marriage with another boy.

Distressed with the development, Lalitha left her home and came to Ambalpady 15 days ago. Basava had told her where to find him.

The lovers, who were highly depressed, decided to end their lives and even bought poison for the purpose, but Basava's employer intervened in time and informed the matter to social worker Vishu Shetty.

Vishu Shetty then convinced the couple not to take the extreme step and spoke to their families, and after almost two weeks of discussions, the families finally gave their consent.

Vishu Shetty himself took the responsibility of getting the couple married and even bore the entire cost. The marriage was solemnised as per customs at a house near Moodubetttu school.

The parents of the boy were present for the wedding and gave their blessings. The girl's mother, however, stayed away.

In the end, all turned out well, and two young lives were not only saved, but even got a whole new beginning.

Congratulations ! the couples as well as Mr. Vishnu Shetty! Uniting the lovers giving new life to them. Hats up to your work. Earlier also u helped elderly sisters giving them shelter through your social service to the poor and needy! this is really great social work for the society. Now love marriages does not demand anything except love ,that too without conditions, but in arranged marriages there are so many demands from each other. This is an inspiration for the lovers to be courageous and don't give up. God bless them also Wish Mr. Shetty all the best in his selfless service.

God Bless Vishu Shetty, let him continue like this without any attachment to any political party or as a foundation to get in to any politics in future. Heard his name so many times in Daiji, example being the 2 very old sisters who were in distress and he helped release them. Hats off Vishu Shetty

Don't say we have not seen god. God will appear in the form of a good human. for Basava and Lalitha Vishnu shetty appeared in the form of god. who says there is no god? and kind hearted people in the world? can it possible there won't be good human beings in the creation of god. Hat's off to you mr. Vishnu shetty for your kind heart.

Wonderful! Let them be happy in their married life. May be, in due course of time, girl’s mother would realize her arrogant attitude and will bless her daughter. That is called mother's love towards her daughter.

Rich or poor, meaning of love is the same.
