Mangaluru, Aug 27: Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala inaugurated 1.5T MRI and multi-slice CT scan machines for the department of radiodiagnosis and imaging, at KMC hospital Attavar on August 27.

The event began with invocation and lighting of lamp. Dr M Venkataraya Prabhu, dean of Kasturba Medical College welcomed the guests and gathering.

Speaking after the inauguration, Dr D Veerendra Heggade said, "We should never become old in duty and we have to use all the opportunities in life. I really admire the commitment at Manipal group. I have learnt many things from them and have used them in my institutions. Pai Family has played a vital role and thus KMC has reached such heights over the years. Instead of finding a cure after the disease, it is better to detect it at early stage and cure it. Now people are victims of various disease due addiction to drugs, drinks and junk foods."

"Today society has seen lot of changes. Poverty level has come down and lot of opportunities have come up. Then why do farmers commit suicide? The reason is very simple- expenditure is more than the income. Of late road accidents have also seen sharp rise. I want to see accident free society. The educated people of the society are simply making a lot of mistakes while driving and are causing accidents. Everyone needs to buy an insurance policy, I hope we do not use it but it provides safety to family during a natural death. I also thank all for honouring me today." he added.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr H S Ballal the pro chancellor of Manipal University said, "Radiology is a fast growing field in the health sector. We need to have good instruments to detect the problems of the disease in the early stages. I am very happy that we have inaugurated 1.5T MRI and multi slice CT machines in KMC. I am grateful to Dharmadikari for all the contribution to education and health care at rural levels. We need to educate the people in rural areas, especially women. Then there will be less migration of the people to cities."

Dr Ramdas M Pai, chancellor Manipal university presided over the function.

A felicitation ceremony was also organized to honour Dr D Veerendra Heggade on being conferred the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award in recognition of his contribution to society, especially in rural development and empowerment to women and youth through employment generation.
