Mumbai, Aug 30 (Agencies) : As the murder mystery of Sheena Bora continues to unfold with stories of sleaze, betrayal and family feud, a report on Saturday said that Indrani Mukerjea's driver Shyam Rai had revealed all to his friend in a bar here two months ago.
Around two months back, Shyam Rai visited a bar with one of his friends to have drinks. However, when he got drunk, he revealed all the details of Sheena's murder to his friend. To his dilemma, one informer of Mumbai Police was sitting behind another table. The informer smelled a rat and at once told the officials about it.
The Mumbai Police reacted swiftly and started following Shyam Rai. In two months the investigators got many tip offs, but didn't go ahead with questioning the Mukerjea family, as Indrani was out in Spain. The police only acted after Indrani returned, as it didn't want her to get alert.
As soon as Indrani reached Mumbai, the police arrested Shyam, who revealed the details of the murder, following which Indrani was arrested.
In a major breakthrough, Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria told media persons late on Friday that former husband of co-accused Indrani, Sanjeev Khanna has cracked and confessed to his role in the crime.
Earlier Maria had maintained that Sheena was murdered on April 24, 2012. Her body was found on May 23 that year after Indrani's driver Shyam Rai revealed the murder site to police.
Indrani was arrested on August 25 on charges of killing Sheena on April 24, 2012 along with her driver Shyam Rai and Khanna.
Khanna has been charged with murder, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, destroying evidence and more. His mobile phone, laptop and passport have been seized but he has denied the police charges.
After interrogation, Maria confirmed that Sheena was indeed the daughter of Indrani, contrary to earlier perceptions that they were siblings.
Peter, a media honcho, had maintained earlier that he was not aware till the other day that Sheena was Indrani's daughter and about the murder and his wife had had told him that Sheena was in the US.
On Friday afternoon, Khanna was taken to the crime scene near Pen in Raigad district, around 95 km south of Mumbai, to recreate the crime scene.
Maria said skeletal remains of Sheena were recovered from the murder scene and they were being sent for forensic and DNA tests.
Suggesting a pre-planned conspiracy, police have said Indrani had recceed Pen area with her driver to pick the exact spot to dispose of her body a day before the actual killing.
