Puttur, Aug 30: Ishwaramangala in Puttur taluk wore a festive look on Saturday August 29 as it played host to the royal family of Mysuru.

The Maharaja of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar along with Pramoda Devi, the widow of Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, were accorded a warm welcome by the locals during their maiden visit to the place.

They performed puja at Hanumagiri Temple at Ishwaramangala and thereafter laid the foundation stone for the new building of the temple and also for Shree Kodandarama Abhisheka Mantapa.

Speaking to media persons, Pramoda Devi said, "I am visiting this place for the first time, and I am very happy to meet the people here. It was my long-cherished wish to offer obeisance to Panchamukhi Anjaneya. I hope that this place sees good development in the near future."

Malleswaram MLA Ashwath Narayan, Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty and others were present.

Pramoda Devi and Yaduveer were also taken in an open jeep procession accompanied by drums and traditional decorative umbrellas, with schoolchildren lining the route.

    Of course they are not rulers at present ,but they were and have their Prestige.They dont ask also to be one.still their heritage in Family should continue.The Lady Looks now very satisfactory than her previous appearance.we Indians can be only proud of saying we do have a Family belonged to Royal Family previously and People from foreign country are eager to know how they lived previously and what they do today.

    @Mohd. Juned,

    You are RIGHT. But you know what ? In Democratic Britain where Democracy in existence before our independence, Kings & Queens are still living. Who were ruling the land in Dubai, Oman etc Juned ?

    They also eat as much as others. Some assets may be more than us. Why there is one Non-working queen in Honey bee family ? Natural things are natural in in their own way. Changing them at the interest of others will culminate the beauty. How to teach the meaning of KING and QUEEN to our children in future if such practice is disappeared ? At least for that sake let it continue as long as they only unanimously disband their group and troup.

    What you say Juned ?

    Regds,

    I don't see the logic behind this larger than life celebration of 'maharaja's' in a democratic country like India. Their era of rukership has long gone. May be we should stop glorifying these so called Maharaja's and Nawab's.

    ..when we do SONIA namaskar & fake Gandhi namaskar, above is not sin..we are indebted to this Maharaja family in many ways..after Independence our politicians not done 10% of the works which ODEYAR family did..from dams to universities, Hospitals..they are pioneers & way ahead of times..they are first princessly state which voluntarily joined INDIAN republic..they have gave away almost all fortune to the nation..But now a days from CORPORATOR it starts to swallow public money..Its lot better to celebrate this people, than any politicians..
