2-hour load shedding in Bengaluru, situation worse in other places

Bengaluru, Sep 1 (DHNS): Faced with a severe shortage of power, the State Cabinet on Monday gave its nod for the Energy Department to effect a two-hour load shedding in the State capital.

The situation in other cities and towns is likely to be much worse in coming days. The Cabinet has authorised the Department to take up scheduled load shedding in those places based on the availability of power.

The Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs), including Bescom, will soon draw up the schedule for load shedding, Law Minister T B Jayachandra told reporters after the Cabinet meeting. The minister said the State is currently facing about 3,000 mega watt (MW) of power shortage as against the total requirement of 8,000 MW.

The severe shortage is mainly due to failure of south-west monsoon rainfall and outages in Udupi Power Corporation Ltd and Ballari Thermal Power Station in recent days. Power generation at major hydel power generating stations of Linganamakki, Mani and Supa has come down drastically due to decline in water level. The State government has already declared 135 taluks as drought-hit.

The Cabinet has also approved a proposal by the Energy Department to purchase about 750 MW of power from open market at Rs 5.08 per unit in order to cope with the situation. The government has authorised the ESCOMs to enter into power purchase agreements with private power producers till May 2016. The total estimated cost of power purchase is a whopping Rs 3,078 crore, Jayachandra said.

Sources in the Energy Department said that the government has not been able to get additional power from the Central grid in the absence of proper transmission corridor and transmission lines within the State. Union Minister of State for Power Piyush Goyal, during his recent visit to Bengaluru, had said that the Centre is ready to give more power to the State.

Dear Readers..!!! please think twice before you comment something.... and stop blindly follows your unethical political parties. the news is about power shedding but all of us are discussing about our own politician and their **** party. Do we need such discussions here... if our state Govt is so good in their governance why they have to wait till BBMP election result to pass this law. If we considering our self as a common man or general public , please note statics says state like Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura, Gujarat, Delhi and Dadra and Nagar Haveli can provide 24X 7 power supply then why not Karnataka. Our neighboring states like Maharashtra, AP, Tamilnadu can generate the surplus electricity, why we are lacking behind... In Tourism Goa and Kerala other two our neighbors are in top 10 the most visited places in the WORLD but where is our state standing in the list. Why....?????? You may get the answer once all us stop fighting here as a Hindu party, Muslim Party or Christian party or XYZ party. Please be united guys...!!! let’s make our State a number one in all aspect, we are capable to do it.

Katthale Bhaagya By Nidderamiah Govt to the Smart voters of Karnataka.
The situation of Power is worst in the history of Karnataka This Year. Mangalore already having load shedding without any media Hype. With a useless hell corrupt minister Power dept state of affairs is functioning at its worst according to the officials due to intervention by the Ministry on its day to day activities. . Even a simply transfers and connections more than 4 floors, Prasada has to reach Ministers house via his chelas who will take their cut.
Water situation in the state will be worst than this especially for the people of DK thanks to diversions in the main river for SEZ and other projects. People visiting home foreign destinations Gulf or any other part of the world, please help your bit by not visiting your loved ones from December-15 to June -16. Its will be of their help for saving whatever water they have and your health. We cannot afford showering 3 times a days thanks to the Humidity, Children who are pampered to sleep in AC’s will suffer in No-Current Mosquito filled Mlore. How much will Inverter or Solar power up your houses ? how much will you bathe in Mineral water ?

Did anyone said you that they are installing a thermal plant in Mangalore????

First solve the current problem by purchasing power from National Grid or from other surplus states.. Long term power plant needs a planning for years and only after that it will start functioning.

Government in the month of August came to know is it that there is less monsoon rain this year??? I believe IMD already stated in the month of June that this year monsoon is below normal... People who sleep its difficult for them to understand this issue...

How much power is used by DK SHI to is companies???? We know in north Karnataka who factories the power goes to... Keep your NDTV gyaan with you itself

We are reaping the fruits of over population. The govt is simply unable to meet the rising demands of an ever increasing population. Yet we have people like shahnawaz kukkikatte who defend the increasing population. Even in Somalia the descent into crisis began with electricity cuts.
