Udupi, Sep 1: A heated discussion regarding repair work of the National Highway from Malpe to Manipal took place between the commissioner, council members, and NH department officer Manjunath at the City Municipal Council (CMC) conference hall in Udupi on Monday August 31.

Councilor Shashiraj Kundar said the CMC has got Rs 12,87,186 as compensation from the central government for encroachment of land by the NHAI (from Balaipade to Santekatte). Since three years, it was under court jurisdiction just because the revenue department had no information about it.

He also said that three illegal wedding halls of Vedvyasa Acharya have been functioning from one year in the city without license from CMC authorities. Responding to the matter, the Commissioner said that similar 13 cases are in court and 5 are complicated cases.

Councilor Ramesh Kanchan complained about the plight of roads and set a one week deadline stating that otherwise they would go for an agitation in front of the NHAI office.

A project report proposal of Rs 92 crore has been sent to the government. This project includes extensions and four-lane work of Athrady-Manipal-Syndicate Circle roads.

Commissioner T Manjunathaiah issued a notice and warned the district surgeon to clean up biomedical wastage water from the hospital surroundings.

Wastage management, improvement of parking system, and other major issues were discussed in the meeting. P Yuvraj, president, and Amritha Krishnamurthy gave timely suggestions to the questions by the opposition party.
