Mangaluru, Sep 1: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) on Tuesday September 1 held a protest demanding solutions to various issues related to education and hostel facilities in government colleges. The protest was held at Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT), Basaveshwara circle.

Addressing the students of KPT who gathered for the protest, ABVP activist Chaithra said, "The education of students is getting ruined due to shortcomings in the system in the state. Teachers are not getting due respect, and quality of education is diminishing. Even basic facilities are not available in many of the government colleges.

"The state government is neglecting the educational system and deferring from reducing the fee for backward class students. ABVP condemns the stance of the state government for its lackadaisical attitude in providing scholarships for SC/ST students and basic facilities in hostels and government colleges," she added.

"Due to delay in the implementation of reduced fee structure for backward classes, SC/ST and minority college students, lacs of students are quitting their education. From past two years, scholarships have not reached the SC/ST students. Government has completely failed in providing better hostel facilities for backward class students. There is no proper drinking water facility and no toilets. There are many other issues too. The government is in sleep mode. Today we are just protesting here, but in the coming days we will hold a massive state-wide protest," she warned.

"All the hostels should be transformed into clean places and special grants should be released for their development. The number of hostels should be increased. Government colleges face shortage of lecturers and this issue also has to be sorted out soon," Chaithra added.

Speaking about the colleges in the state, Chaithra said, "Day by day private colleges are turning into business centres. This is because of lack of facilities in government colleges. Most of the government colleges, be it ITI, PUC, degree, engineering or medical colleges lack drinking water facility, toilets, library, sports equipment and many other amenities," she added.

Hope you make similar comments when Christians protest...

Differences of opinion is issue based not person based...

Politicians will not be under pressure to rectify hostel problems, if you guys oppose the protest... And many from your community also suffer if the facilities are not there...

Facilities are given to those who attend the college regularly and not to those who are often found on streets of Mangalore agitating. Why do you require facilities in college when in actual you are out on the street busy protesting throughout the year? First start attending college regularly and then demand amenities. If an attendance register is maintained by Pereira's, Coastal, Costa, Ashirvad etc hotels and few other bars and pubs, I am sure, you all will get 100% attendance whereas in college your attendance is hardly 25%.

Actually you must be agitating against Kalladka Govt for not giving you proper facilities and remuneration for your contribution in cattle protection, moral policing, hafta collection, blackmail bhagya, photoshop bhagya etc. Scumbags! Your first priority should be to become a students and not activists. Learn ABCD first and then learn ABVP...

ABVP is RSS affiliated students wing. In Dakshina Kannada Kalladka Prabhaker Bhat is their remote control. When the pub attack and home stay attack against students these ABVP was totally sleeping, none of them raised any voice.
They are only against non BJP governments. I request all minority students especially girls should not attend any ABVP protest.
They are the real brother of Bhajrang Dal.
Parents should advise students about their anti national activities.

Good Initiative by ABVP, Great Job.

    Note to Chaithra,
You had a very good opportunity to fix these issues around 2 years back when BJP was in power for 5 years.

What is the reason behind for not taking these issues with the Govt. during that time ?.

Is your intension just to politicise the issue only ?.

My sincere requests to all students to concentrate on their studies rather than supporting these kind of opportunists (all students unions are same) and spoiling your career.

Gov't college / institutions / buses or anything means public property. The person who is using this has to take care of it. If the students are going to those colleges they should take initiative to clean and keep it up to date.

That's what i am telling, take initiative and clean colleges / premises. No need from instruction from anyone. If they are so proud and so rich why they are going to gov't colleges. Rich person also cleaning his house, doing his own work don't depend on others. Students also understand that situation and do their responsibility.

Earlier India is ruled by caste base politics now religion & caste both.No students union should be back up by political parties.

This Union is affiliated to BJP. ABVP is raise the voice against non BJP ruled states/administration only. (The ABVP was started by students in 1948, a year after Indian Independence, with the objective of channeling students' energy toward the task of national reconstruction. It was founded by a group of students and teachers and was registered on 9 July 1949. Its growth process was slow and sporadic in its first few years but was accelerated after Professor Yeshwantrao Kelkar, a lecturer in Bombay, became its main organiser in 1958. He built the organisation into what it is now and is considered to be the real architect of the ABVP.

    ABVP activist protesting
The ABVP gradually spread its work across several universities in India. Contrary to the popular perception that it is the student wing of BJP, the ABVP is actually the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and was founded before the BJP. However, it participates in joint activities with BJP's official youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha
