Mangaluru: Elderly man found dead in well - Murder suspected

Mangaluru, Sep 1: An elderly man was found dead in a well at Murgekala of Moodukonaje village, Moodibidri near here on Tuesday September 1. It is suspected that he was murdered.

The deceased has been identified as Guruva (60). The well in which his body was found is located in his own land.

Police have taken two of his relatives into custody for questioning.

It is learnt that Guruva and his wife Girija had quarrelled about two weeks ago, after which Girija left the house and began staying the slush fields in Beluvai.

Also, Girija's younger brother Sadananda and relative Babu had been staying in Guruva's house for the last few months, and used to fight everyday after getting drunk, sources said.

On Monday August 31 night, the two again got drunk and had a quarrel, after which they said they would go to the house of one Mudara Poojary, a local, and sleep there. It is said that they had a torch, stick and a bedsheet with them.

The neighbours who got suspicious looking at the sticks and torch informed the local youths. Guruva was then found to have gone missing. When Sadananda was questioned, he gave evasive replies, it is said. The police who arrived at the spot searched till 2 am but Guruva was not found.

When the locals came to the well on Tuesday morning, they found Guruva's body it.

Moodbidri police who arrived took Babu and Sadananda into custody for questioning.

A case has been registered in Moodbidri police station.
