Mangaluru, Sep 1: All India Road Transport Workers Federation has pledged support to the September 2 nation-wide stir supporting various demands, and has given a call to its members to stay off work on Wednesday. A number of central labour unions have given a call for strike on September 2.
Motor Transport and Engineering Workers Union leader and CITU general secretary, Vasant Achary, president of Bus Employees Association, Ashok, and secretary, Vishwanath Kulal said in a release that workers of private service, express, and city buses from the district will be taking part in this strike, and that buses will not take to roads on Wednesday.
The city division of KSRTC staff and labour union has asked all the employees of all state road transport corporations to voluntarily take part in the All India strike on September 2. A release also said that Akshara Dasoha workers will be supporting the strike call and will be off work on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, in view of the absence of transport, declared holiday for schools and colleges in the district on Wednesday.
