Teachers prune tresses en masse, earn wrath of parents

Madikeri, Sep 2: The parents of girl students of a private school at Virajpet raged with anger after noticing that their daughters had come back from school with Bob-cuts in the evening in place of long tresses. The lady teachers of the school had not only applied scissors to the long hair of these students, but also sent back the hair so cut duly packed by the respective girls.

The incident happened in a private school at Virajpet in Kodagu district on Tuesday September 1. The parents are livid because the school neither obtained their permission nor cared for sentimental or religious considerations they attach to maintenance of long hair.

It is said that out of over 60 students, the teachers cut short tresses of over 25 students within the school premises. The hair so cut was got packed by the respective girl students and sent back to their parents. Several parents, after being briefed about this development by their daughters, rushed to the school to question the concerned, but by then the teachers who had cut short the hair of their children were not present, it is said.

The parents brought this issue to the notice of Virajpet taluk block development officer, Pandu. Pandu, who rushed to the school immediately, gathered information about this development from other teachers who were present there. He said that in his opinion, the behaviour of these teachers was baffling, and promised to take steps after looking into the incident in detail.
