Bengaluru, Sep 2: For the first time in the history of the parliament, a Kannadiga, V R Ramesh from Bengaluru has been appointed as the additional secretary (AS) of Lok Sabha. Joint secretary of Lok Sabha, P C Kaul, issued orders promoting Ramesh to this post on Tuesday, after his name was cleared by the speaker.

Ramesh, a postgraduate in economics from Bangalore University, has served the government and parliament in various capacities. He had taken responsibility of running the legislature secretariat in the state for 16 years,and had functioned as assistant returning officer for the election to the post of Vice President of India held in 2012.

In addition to delivering lectures to MPs and IAS officers on parliamentary law and affairs, Ramesh has functioned as assistant editor to various publications from the parliament and government departments. He has also been involved with visit of parliaments of different countries, exchange of views with senior officials of Commonwealth countries, and several other activities.
