SSB mountaineering team to scale Uttarakhand peak

New Delhi, Sep 2 (IANS): A 15-member Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) mountaineering team was flagged off by Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju here on Wednesday on its way to scale the 23,360 feet high Trishul peak in Uttarakhand.

Mountaineering inculcates enterprising skills in force personnel and, therefore, such types of activities should be organised on a regular basis to keep them motivated, Rijiju said.

Speaking on the occasion, SSB Director General Bansi Dhar Sharma said that SSB frequently conducted such campaigns, read a statement.

Starting from New Delhi, the team would first reach Gwaldam hill station in Uttarakhand and then establish its base camp at Chamoli district's Hemkund, a Sikh pilgrimage site.

After scaling the peak, the team would be back by September end, he said.
